How TekXYZ App Estimates Calories During Reflex Ball Training

TekXYZ App Now Includes Calorie Estimates

TekXYZ App now includes a Calories feature in workout results. It appears alongside Hits and Duration, helping beginners and experienced users understand each session and track their boxing reflex ball training over time.

The feature follows the Metabolic Equivalent of Task (MET) framework, a standardized way to describe the energy cost of physical activity relative to resting.

How Does TekXYZ App Estimate Calories?

TekXYZ App estimates calories using three inputs: the session’s estimated energy rate, body weight, and workout duration.

Estimated Calories ≈ Estimated Energy Rate × Body Weight × Workout Duration

  • Estimated energy rate — kcal/kg/min: estimated amount of energy used per kg per minute.
  • Body weight — kg: the same activity generally has a different estimated energy cost at different body weights.
  • Workout duration — min: longer sessions normally produce a higher estimate when other inputs are similar.

The App completes the calculation internally and displays the result in kilocalories (kcal), commonly called Calories in fitness apps.

As the App already has the body weight and workout duration data, the remaining question is how it determines the estimated energy rate for each session. It begins by estimating workout intensity.

How Is Boxing Reflex Ball Training Intensity Estimated?

TekXYZ first estimates workout intensity using MET.

What Is MET?

MET stands for Metabolic Equivalent of Task. One MET represents approximately the energy used while sitting quietly. In the standard definition, 1 MET is about 3.5 milliliters of oxygen per kilogram of body weight per minute. Activities with higher MET values have a higher estimated energy cost.

Why Use Boxing Activities as References?

MET values for many activities are organized in the Compendium of Physical Activities. The 2024 Adult Compendium includes boxing and punching-bag activities at several intensities. Selected examples are shown below.

Selected boxing references from the 2024 Adult Compendium. These are comparison points, not TekXYZ App thresholds.

 Activity Met
Punching bag - general 5.8
Punching bag - 60/min 7.0
Punching bag - 120/min 8.5
Punching bag - 180/min 10.8

TekXYZ uses boxing activities as the nearest available scientific comparison and adapts these references through its own intensity-estimation logic, primarily based on hit rhythm. Sessions with a faster hit rhythm are generally assigned a higher estimated intensity (MET).

A Simple Calculation Example

The following example shows how the high-level formula works. It is illustrative and does not disclose the App's exact hit-rhythm thresholds.

Frequently Asked Questions

How accurate are TekXYZ calorie estimates?

TekXYZ calorie estimates are designed to provide a consistent workout reference rather than an exact measurement. They are based on the information available to the App, while actual energy expenditure may vary with punch force, footwork, movement range, technique, rest time, fitness level, and individual metabolism.

How should I use the calorie estimate?

Use it mainly to compare your own sessions and observe trends over time. It can support workout tracking and motivation, but it should not be treated as precise medical data or used as the sole basis for dietary planning.

How does hit rhythm affect the calorie estimate?

Hit rhythm is calculated by dividing total hits by workout minutes. A faster hit rhythm usually suggests a higher training pace, so the App normally assigns a higher estimated intensity. However, hit rhythm cannot fully capture punch force, footwork, movement range, technique, or rest patterns. TekXYZ’s conversion from hit rhythm to estimated intensity is an internal product model.
